Kara Young protagoniza 'Proof' en Broadway y estrena su primer papel protagónico en cine con 'Is God Is'

Nueva York, 01 de mayo de 2026.- Kara Young protagoniza actualmente la obra 'Proof' en Broadway y se prepara para liderar su primer estudio de cine con la película 'Is God Is', la cual se estrenará en cines de Norteamérica el 15 de mayo.

Young, quien es la primera actriz negra en ganar dos premios Tony consecutivos y ser nominada durante cuatro años seguidos, reemplazó a Samira Wiley en 'Proof' por razones de salud de esta última. La actriz reveló que tuvo un tiempo limitado de preparación: "I had five days in the [rehearsal] room and then I went straight to tech, so I didn't have much time to prepare".

Respecto a este momento de su carrera, Young declaró: "I have all the feelings, but I don't know how to even describe them". Añadió que "This is something that's completely new for me — it's a new world for me". A pesar de sus logros recientes, la intérprete mantiene una perspectiva de trabajo constante: "People say, like, 'Oh my God, all these things have happened,' but I feel like I'm still hustling".

En el ámbito cinematográfico, 'Is God Is' está dirigida y escrita por Aleshea Harris, adaptada de su propia obra finalista al Pulitzer. En la película, distribuida por Amazon MGM Studios, Young interpreta a Racine, una de las hermanas gemelas en una misión de venganza. El reparto incluye también a Mallori Johnson, Vivica A. Fox, Sterling K. Brown, Erika Alexander y Janelle Monáe. El tráiler del filme ha sido visto más de 13.5 millones de veces en YouTube.

Aleshea Harris elogió a la protagonista afirmando: "It is my honor to platform Kara, who many of us in the theater already know is a rare gift, a once-in a lifetime talent". La dramaturga agregó: "I hope the beauty of her performance opens even more doors for her both onstage and onscreen. No one is more deserving".

Por su parte, Ayo Edebiri describió a Young como una compañera de escena maravillosa: "She's a wonderful scene partner — passionate, deeply interrogative and endlessly curious". Edebiri destacó: "She feels so very deeply and fully; it's pretty astounding to be in contact with. When she brings that into her work, it never feels untethered or ostentatious".

Antes de estos roles protagónicos, Young tuvo papeles menores en proyectos de Boots Riley como 'I'm a Virgo' y 'I Love Boosters', así como papeles recurrentes en series como 'The Punisher' y 'The Staircase'. Sobre su trayectoria, la actriz comentó: "Either you wait to get something on television or film, or you work and work on your instrument and keep your sword sharpened".

Finalmente, Young reflexionó sobre la percepción pública de su éxito: "I don't think that's a bad thing, but people are always under the assumption that the thing has gotten perhaps easier. But I haven't really seen a change".
