Val Chmerkovskiy se ausentará de DWTS tras referirse a la bofetada de Will Smith al criticar a Carrie Ann Inaba

Ciudad de Mexico, 18 de octubre de 2026.- Val Chmerkovskiy no participará en el próximo episodio de Dedication Night de Dancing With the Stars, informó BBC Studios en un comunicado emitido el sábado, luego de que el bailarín hiciera una referencia a la bofetada de Will Smith a Chris Rock en los Óscar mientras criticaba el juicio de la jueza Carrie Ann Inaba sobre su esposa, Jenna Johnson.
"The well-being of everyone who works on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is non-negotiable. Val’s social media post was inappropriate and does not reflect the values or standards expected of anyone connected with the show. As a result, he will not participate in next week’s show", señaló la productora.
El origen del conflicto fue la crítica de Inaba a Johnson durante el episodio del 13 de octubre. Tras la samba de Johnson y su pareja famosa Harry Shum Jr. con "Yeah!" de Usher, la jueza le dijo: "I think you need to put more content in your dances. Especially because [Harry’s] so good, I want to see you challenge yourself a little bit more in the vein of what we’re looking for. And there was a lift." Johnson respondió: "A lift?". Inaba sacó entonces un papel con la definición de lift y la leyó en vivo: "A lift is — I just need to say it — any movement during which one of the dancers has both feet off the floor at the same time with the assistance or support of their partner. Yeah, lift."
Después, Chmerkovskiy publicó en su historia de TikTok: "You almost saw Fresh Prince enter the ballroom last night". La publicación fue eliminada, pero Inaba la vio y comentó en su propio Instagram: "So this is what we are doing now?", junto a una captura de pantalla de una publicación de Page Six y una imagen dividida de Smith y Chmerkovskiy. Un hilo de Reddit interpretó que el comentario se refería "likely referring to when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock for making a comment about his wife" y que supuestamente "wanted to slap Carrie Ann for telling Jenna to step it up".
El jueves, Chmerkovskiy se disculpó con Inaba y con los espectadores en su historia de Instagram: "I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart for my recent post. I have reached out to Carrie Ann to apologize directly and personally, and I also want to apologize publicly as I understand my words affect so many outside of our internal DWTS family. I recognize that I am in a fortunate position to have a platform and to be a role model to some, and I need to treat that with more care by actively pausing to think before I post to ensure what I am sharing aligns with who I am, and who I want to be for you all. I am truly sorry to Carrie Ann, and everyone who I hurt with my careless post. I will do better moving forward."
En otro mensaje, explicó: "In a moment where my instinct was to defend my wife, I made a poor decision to reference a meme to ‘keep my wife’s name’ out of the conversation, without stopping to think through what else that reference could imply, which was genuinely never my intention. Carrie Ann certainly didn’t deserve to get caught in the middle of my bad judgment, and I hate that she was." Añadió: "The last thing I want is to become a distraction from an important week or from the incredible work my dance partner Jenna Dewan is putting in. Please send Carrie Ann, Jenna, and the whole DWTS family lots of love during Dedication Night. I’ll be watching and cheering everyone on!!"
Chmerkovskiy, quien aparece en Dancing With the Stars desde la segunda temporada, está emparejado con Jenna Dewan para la temporada 35. Dewan bailará en la semana de dedicatoria con Alan Bersten, eliminado esta temporada tras competir con Giada De Laurentiis, en el episodio del 20 de octubre. La pareja interpretará un vals vienés con "Unchained Melody", dedicado a su madre. Dewan y Chmerkovskiy han puntuado consistentemente bien, subiendo a la cima de la tabla de clasificación durante el Super Bowl Night de la semana pasada.
