Gail Lerner es despedida como showrunner de 'Newlyweds' de NBC a dos semanas de su estreno

Ciudad de Mexico, 10 de octubre de 2026.- Gail Lerner anunció el viernes que fue despedida de 'Newlyweds', la próxima comedia de NBC que co-creó y en la que iba a ser showrunner, a dos semanas de su estreno previsto para el 23 de octubre.
En una publicación en Instagram, Lerner escribió: "Here's the good news: I couldn't be more proud of the new sitcom Newlyweds that I created with the singular Jamie Lee Curtis. Premieres 10/23! Here's the bad news: I got fired off it today. The reason I've been given is 'creative differences.' The cloudy part: I'm so sad to be separated from the most joyous TV experience of my life. The cast, crew, and writers are unparalleled."
Representantes de NBC confirmaron que diferencias creativas llevaron a la decisión, según reportó Variety.
Lerner continuó en su mensaje: "The silver lining: the first six episodes were made under my leadership, and I wouldn't change a thing. No one knows what's going to happen in our meshuganah business, but I predict this show's gonna be a barn burner. Please check out the first six (and beyond!). If you like them, please let me know! If you don't, keep it to yourself."
La publicación de Lerner también incluyó: "Sending all my love and hopes for a long and happy run to everyone who gave their talent and open hearts to make this happen. As my dear friend @courtneyaltonlilly told me, better to die on your feet than live on your knees." Estaba firmada: "Love from your friend on her feet."
'Newlyweds' está protagonizada por Téa Leoni y Tim Daly, una pareja realmente casada que ha estado junta durante más de una década después de conocerse en el drama de CBS 2014-19 'Madam Secretary'. La co-creadora Jamie Lee Curtis también aparece en un papel recurrente como estrella invitada.
La logline del programa lo describe como "a later-in-life love story about a free-spirited woman (Leoni) and a buttoned-up professor (Daly) who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship."
El programa fue una de las dos únicas comedias que NBC eligió para la temporada de transmisión 2026-2027. La otra, 'Sunset P.I.', debutará a mitad de temporada. Universal Television produce 'Newlyweds'.
Lerner es una productora veterana. Sus créditos incluyen 'Black-ish' y su spin-off 'Mixed-ish', así como 'Will & Grace', 'Happy Endings' y 'Ugly Betty'.
